A rumor has just emerged on Twitter on Bitcointopia, a platform that sells 3,000 acres of land in Nevada desert to Bitcoin owners and plans to build a community that will bring “Bitcoin into the physical world” that claims that it is a scam.
Being a popular social platform within the crypto community, there is plenty of news and rumor that can be found on Twitter. One that emerged just recently is a rumor against Bitcointopia that was brought up by a Bitcoin podcaster, Peter McCormack.
As Chepicap reported in June, Bitcointopia is a platform that claims the ownership of 3,000 acres of land in Nevada desert and plans to build it to become the “Bitcoin city of tomorrow” in Nevada desert.
On his Twitter account, McCormack claimed that many people have been scammed by both the Bitcointopia platform and their CEO, Morgan Rockwell. He said that Bitcointopia hasn’t provided their land buyers with deeds and that those who asked for refunds received online attacks from fake accounts.
Regarding the CEO, McCormack stated that Rockwell hasn’t paid back the money he received from people who helped him with his previous legal case. When he was arrested by the Homeland Security for money laundering last February, it was publicly known that Rockwell was actively asking for donations to pay for legal fees, which he expected to cost him around $150,000-$300,000.
McCormack also mentioned that the land offered by Bitcointopia is overpriced and in the middle of nowhere. Furthermore, he added that the platform hasn’t shown any realistic plans on how the city will be built and launched, although they have managed to raise 60 BTC so far.
Due to his tweets on this topic, the podcaster claimed to have received several threats from fake accounts, which he associated with Bitcointopia and Rockwell.
